Viruses / Trojans and other Virilli are a serious concern to all users of computers. While it is possible to 'clean up machines' infected with these things, it is much easier to try and avoid the areas where they live. 'FREE' music, software, pornography sites are notorious for them but they are NOT the only places you can get them.
All you have to do is connect to a site where the infection lives and it can be transmitted to your machine. One of the 'best' ways to get a bug is to use peer to peer services for 'free' music, movies, software etc. If these sites have it.....you'll have it within moments of connection.
Some of the more sophisticated ones can actually take over 'permissions' of your files and folders and shut down virus hunting programs....For this reason it is often more COST EFFECTIVE to have a technician save as much data (pictures, documents etc) from your hard drive and then restore your machine. That is why it is important to make 'RESTORE CDs' from the RESTORE PARTITION of your machine. These will prove to be very very valuable in the event your machine is infected.
